Back to Normandy · Bomber Command missions day by day

Bomber Command raid - night of 28/29 August 1940

Berlin · Germany

The story

GERMANY, FRANCE
79 Blenheims, Hampdens, Wellingtons and Whitleys to 6 targets in Germany and to French airfields, 1 Blenheim and 1 Hampden lost. Berlin was one of the German cities attacked and it would be regularly included in routine raids from now onwards; the number of aircraft sent was usually small and normal targets for this period of the war - power stations, railway stations, etc. - were chosen for attack.

---

DUTCH-GERMAN COAST
26 Blenheims; 7 bombed airfields and shipping. No losses.

---

GERMANY, AIRFIELDS
81 Blenheims, Hampdens, Wellingtons and Whitleys to Bottrop, Essen, Mannheim and Soest, and to airfields in Holland and France, 1 Blenheim and 1 Hampden lost.
