De Wellington gebruikte een geodetische constructietechniek waarbij schade geen structureel falen kon veroorzaken. Het was ZEER sterk en kon gevechtsschade veel beter overleven dan conventionele airframes.
De meeste reparaties van gevechtsschade aan 'Wellies' bestonden uit het aanbrengen van een pleister over het kogelgat in de behandelde stoffen buitenbekleding nadat de kogel of granaat er dwars doorheen was gegaan...
