The story
Headquartered in Southampton, England, the 9th Infantry Division – the “Old Reliables” – trained and prepared for deployment to France.
It had transferred from the Mediterranean Theater of Operations, and was one of the most combat experienced divisions in the United States Army at that point in the war.
