On 1944-12-25, Pilot H E R Merlin (Warrant Officer, RAF) with an unknown servicenumber, flew a Typhoon Ib with serial JP918 Y for this duty: unknown operation. His mission was not completed. Circumstances of the aircraft loss: Force landed at Malmedy. This aircraft was a part of squadron no. 175. The location for the map is Malmedy, Belgium. Circumstances at the end of this mission for Merlin: he died, but circumstances of death are unknown. There is no commemoration location known.

I believe the information of this pilots fate is incorrect. Several sources I've found state that he survived this forced landing...

Christmas Day 1944 and operations were still being flown, no respite for the 2TAF Typhoons or the ground forces that they were supporting. There were 4 recorded losses on Christmas day with 3 pilots safe (1 PoW) but 1 pilot was unfortunately lost
