Squadron Leader Tom Pugh was my late uncle. He lost his life on this mission, aged 26. He had been promoted to Wing Commander just prior to this sortie. He was not recovered and is commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial. According to the ORB, whilst leading a dive bombing assault on a destroyer in Dunkirk harbour, his aircraft was hit by ack-ack, disintegrated, burst into flames and fell into the sea. In the opinion of his No 2, his starboard bomb burst when his aircraft was hit. May he rest in peace.
