Flight of Mustang III FX984 and Flight Lieutenant D P Will on 1944-08-06

On 1944-08-06, Pilot D P Will (Flight Lieutenant, RAF) with servicenumber 89840 flew a Mustang III with serial FX984 for this duty: Dive Bombing. His mission was not completed. Circumstances of the aircraft loss are unknown. This aircraft was a part of squadron no. 65. The location for the map is the English Channel. Circumstances at the end of this mission for Will: he was killed. He is commemorated at: Le Thuit Churchyard, France.

My maternal grandfather was Denis Will. I have more detail about the crash tat claimed his life and have been to his grave a number of times. It is believed it was mechanical failure. I can share more detail with you if you would like it as I spoke to the mayor of the village where he is buried and have some photos.

The plane was based at B12 Ellon temporary airfield just south of Bayaeux, Normandy. The mission was bombing Barges on the River Seine.
