Flight of Spitfire V R7266 and Pilot Officer D M Waldon on 1941-08-09

On 1941-08-09, Pilot D M Waldon (Pilot Officer, RCAF) with servicenumber J/3750 flew a Spitfire V with serial R7266 J for this duty: Sweep. His mission was not completed. Circumstances of the aircraft loss: Failed to return. This aircraft was a part of squadron no. 403. The location for the map is the English Channel. Circumstances at the end of this mission for Waldon: he was killed. He is commemorated at: Longuenesse (St. Omer) Souvenir Cemetery, France.

PO Waldon is a cousin (via Barton family, my mother). My wife and I found his grave a few years ago. The cemetery is not easily found by signage, so plan ahead. There is a small WW2 section; the WW1section is much larger (several military hospitals in the area then).
I am an RCAF pilot/veteran and worked on a Spit MkIX as a very young man, so making this contact was all the more meaningful.
