Howard Albright Lloyd was my uncle. I don't know much about him other that what I have read in letters that my grandparents sent and received during his deployment and after he passed away. My father, Ralph Lloyd didn't talk very much about his brother, Howard so I have always felt a gap in my family's story.

Howard Albright Lloyed is my great cousin. Born 10 March 1912, we both grew up in Chocolatetown, USA, aka Hershey, PA. He attended nearby Lebanon Valley College, where he played basketball and graduated in 1936 with a B.A. in business. Prior to Pearl Harbor he was employed by the Hershey Bank and Trust Company. He enlisted in the Army at the New Cumberland Army Depot in May 1942. After completing basic training, he was commissioned a second lieutenant of infantry in November 1942 via the Officer Candidate School at Fort Benning, GA. Little else is known about his military service until 12 June 1944, when he reported as a replacement officer from the Army Replacement Center in England on D+6 to the 358th Infantry Regiment, 90th Infantry Division in Normandy, France. Assigned to the Headquarters, 358th Infantry Regiment as an assistant liaison officer, he would be mortally wounded and listed as died of wounds four days later, 16 June 1944. From research among official files and after-action reports, it appears he was the victim of fratricide when three times friendly artillery fire struck the battalions of the 90th Infantry Division during their attempts to seize the village of Gourbesville. The attached photo is from 2018 when I made a personal pilgrimage to Colleville-sur-Mer to honor him on my 70th birthday.
