In April 2012, the family of T / Sgt Minnick made contact with the FORCED LANDING Association and formulated the wish to go to France to gather at the crash site. His daughter JUDY was born a month after the death of his father and grew up without knowing him. The Association undertook to organize this meeting with the remarkable participation of the Municipality of Amilly. A commemorative plaque in honor of the crew of Lt STEVENS was inaugurated May 13, 2012 in the presence of the family. A pale helix of the B-17 was found on a farm and it was given by the owners in order to be attached to the monument to the City of the Dead. A visit to the crash site was organized with the friendly company of the owners of the neighboring farm. Here are some pictures of this unforgettable day strong emotions.
By Judy Grogan: I am sending some material on my father, Thomas J. Minnick III. The wedding picture shows my father and mother, Judy Pope, on their wedding day of 6/15/44 in Cincinnati, Ohio. The photo in the field is of the B-17 crash site near Amilly. The artwork was the gift of Christian Dieppendale. The Association Forced Landing (Jean Pierre) were wonderful and located the crash site and arranged a ceremony in Amilly with a stele honoring the B-17 crew. Some of these photos are from Association Forced Landing, Amilly, and a Chartres newspaper. Another member of the crew, Gordon Dixon is buried in Plot J in Normandy. A crewmember is buried in Wisconsin and 5 in a common grave in Arlington. All were killed in action. One crew member, Sgt. Doyle was taken prisoner by the Germans. I hope this is too much. Association Forced Landing also put out material. They were on a bombing raid to Chartres, France. Thanks again, Judy
