British Navy sailing with five destroyers into Ofotfjord
The day after the Nazi invasion, the British Navy counter, sailing five destroyers into Ofotfjord to attack the German Kriegsmarine ships. Both sides lose two destroyers, but the Germans also have another ship heavily damaged. Another important aspect of the British Navy’s efforts is the involvement of local fishing boats, known as Skøytefolkene. Their role is to transport soldiers and other equipment between ships and strategic places on land.
