10 The Highland Light Infantry in the attractive small village of WARMSEN day 1

1945-04-08 · Warmsen · Germany

The story

By the evening the majority of the Battalion was in its billets in the attractive small village of WARMSEN : but" B " and" C " Companies had to follow up next day when more troop-carrying transport became available. While plans were made and reconsidered, we were able to profit by a few quiet days to rest and organise ourselves for future battles. The Pipe Band, having caught us up again at last, inflicted the full penalty of defeat on the local population by playing Retreat in the village. The Padre was very pleased to be able to hold a service once more in a proper church and not in a barn or an orchard.
