Whitley X3WI (A)
Alt Name: Whitley Abbey. Opened: 1921. Status in 1944: --. Current use: Industry. Remarks: Armstrong Whitworth created a small grass airfield together with assembly sheds on the then much larger 'Whitley Common' area of Coventry in 1921. The site was very small and Armstrong Whitworth moved out in 1934 and set up new assembly buildings at Baginton airfield Coventry. The old Whitley airfield site became industrial, and of late it has been completely obliterated when Jaguar Cars built a large Engineering Design facility on the site.
