Avro Lancaster I (W4860 PM-) on a mission to Munchen on 1943-03-10
On Tuesday, 09 March 1943, (a part of) the aircraft of the 103 squadron (RAF), took off for a mission to Munchen in Germany from a station (airfield) in or near Elsham Wolds.
One of the crew members was 1185420 Flight Sergeant J V Roper. He departed for his mission at 20:08.
He flew with an Avro Lancaster (type I, with serial W4860 and code PM-). His mission and of the other crew members was planned for Wednesday, 10 March 1943.
Dave Roper (his son): "the crew was buried in Lavannes ( France) approx 15km from Reimes. The local people have erected a memorial the crew of W4860 and one other crew. There was one survivor of W4860 and he was the navigator who went to the USA after the war. I met him at Elsham Wolds memorial service. We were invited to Lavannes by the local townspeople to take part in all memorial service that put on for us."
