Flight of Typhoon Ib MP138 and Squadron Leader J E Hogg on 1945-03-23
Hawker Typhoon serial MP138 was lost on 23 March 1945 during a training accident. 438 SQN RCAF was pulled from the front lines between 19 March and 2 April 1945 and sent to No.17 Armament Practice Camp at RAF Warmwell Dorset UK. During a practice dive bombing over water, the aircraft failed to pull out of the dive and impacted the water in a near vertical attitude.
The pilot who was the 438 SQN commanding officer, J/21119 Squadron Leader James Easson Hogg DFC was killed in the crash. He is commemorated on panel 278 of the RUNNYMEDE MEMORIAL ; Surrey, United Kingdom.
