10 The Highland Light Infantry night near Dalle
By 15.00 hours, we had advanced 15miles and crossed, by means of a tank bridge, our fourth crater. Small batches of prisoners were constantly being brought in whenever a halt or a detour was made, and an occasional outbreak of shooting at some point in the column by a determined rearguard would result in some more coming in. The country we were travelling through, large tracks of thick fir wood for the most part, lent itself admirably to delaying tactics and wewere always relievedto get out of the many" Bazooka Alleys" or " Spandau Corners" into an open patch.
