British Navy, led by HMS Warspite, attack the remaining German destroyers
Three days later, the British Navy, led by HMS Warspite, attack the remaining German destroyers. By the end of the assault, each German ship has either been sunk or taken ashore to save the crew. During these three days, the Germans lose 10 of their newest destroyers, helping to prevent a planned invasion of Britain in the autumn of 1940. Another important loss was to their supply ships. Following their destruction, it was almost impossible for the Germans to get more ammunition and other necessary equipment for the war into and out of Narvik. As a result, the Nazis military resorted to using Norwegian uniforms and weapons to fight the Allies.
