Flight of Typhoon Ib JP370 and Flying Officer R Payne on 1943-07-15

On 1943-07-15, Pilot R Payne (Flying Officer, RAF) with an unknown servicenumber, flew a Typhoon Ib with serial JP370 for this duty: Rodeo. His mission was not completed. Circumstances of the aircraft loss: Damaged. This aircraft was a part of squadron no. 182. The location for the map is the English Channel. Circumstances at the end of this mission for Payne: he was injured. There is no commemoration location known.

Roy Payne's service no. was 121358.
He returned to base at New Romney, Kent. Squadron records state that he was slightly injured in the left leg when cannon shell splinters from a Me109 entered his cockpit.
He was taken to Willesborough Hospital...

He returned to base at New Romney, Kent. Squadron records state that he was slightly injured in the left leg when cannon shell splinters from a Me109 entered his cockpit.
He was taken to Willesborough Hospital (Ashford, Kent). He doesn't appear to have returned to 182 Squadron. Does anyone know what happened to him?
