Everett S. Thomas was my uncle. He, along with four of his five brothers all served i nEurope or the Pacific and all came home. I only knew part of this story when I wrote a column in D-Day's 50th anniversary in 1994, but now I know "the rest of the story." Everett and so many others were true true heroes in the nest sense of the word. He loved to laugh and out family reunions often centered around his jokes. What a man. What a generation! What a gift they gave to their descendants. As my cousin Tommy says, we might be speaking German were it not for men like him.
